You’ve probably heard the saying, “There are no atheists in foxholes.” Dangerous situations that are out of our control are excellent at revealing our dependence on God. I had several instances as a professing non-believer where I thought my life was genuinely in danger, and each time I found myself calling out to God. One of my clearest memories of this was when I was caught in an intense storm while camping alone in Utah. I was a proud atheist then, confident I had complete control of my life. But this storm humbled me, showing me that I couldn’t control everything, and this idol of self I had created was obliterated. Have you ever been humbled by God and shown how weak your idols are? Thank God for these trials and let them strengthen your faith.
