There is strong propaganda from the world right now that we need to “just trust ourselves,” and this quote is a good reminder of the folly in this notion. It is also a good reminder for Christians not to place our faith in our spiritual leaders, as they are only flawed men. I know many people that have become jaded by corruption in the church and, as a result, stopped attending. Satan loves this because it fractures the body. Christians must meet together in person, which means subjecting ourselves to the fallibility of man. Be sure your faith is firmly rooted in Christ so that if Satan manages to corrupt your leader, the damage stops there and doesn’t spread to the rest of the body. Man can fail you, but Jesus never will.
