Don The Armour

A short interview of heaven, and a vision of love now and then upon the mount of an ordinance, or affliction, cheers the spirits of drooping Christians, who — might they have leave to build tabernacles there, and dwell under a constant shine of such manifestations — would be prone to forget themselves, and think they were lords of their own comforts.

William Gurnall, The Christian in Complete Armour

The life of a Christian is full of peaks and valleys. We wish we could always stay on the peak, as Peter, James, and John did on the Mount of Transfiguration. However, this could tempt us to forget God and believe we are responsible for our blessings. Sometimes the Lord brings us down from the peak so that we can renew our dependence on him.
