‘I will put my spirit in you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments and do them,’ (Ezekiel 36:27). He doth not say they shall have his Spirit if they will walk in his statutes; no, his Spirit shall cause them to do it.

Perseverance and obedience are signs of sanctification. Keeping God’s commandments shows that your heart is regenerated and you have the Holy Spirit within you. You do not earn the Spirit by observing the statutes; rather, after you receive the Spirit by faith and repentance, he changes your desires and makes you want to keep the statutes.
