Don The Armour

And is there nothing, Christian, thou canst think on, wherein thou mayst eminently be instrumental for God in thy generation? He is not a good subject, that is all for what he can get of his prince, but never thinks what service he may do for him; nor he the true Christian, whose thoughts dwell more on his own happiness than on the honour of his God.

William Gurnall, The Christian in Complete Armour

---

In the book of Exodus, when God needed his tabernacle, ark, and other holy objects built, he filled men with the Spirit and gave them gifts and abilities to accomplish these tasks.

And I have given to all able men ability, that they may make all that I have commanded you (Exodus 31:6)

The same Spirit that gave Bezalel, Oholiab, and other men of the exodus generation the abilities needed to carry out God’s commands now dwells in all of us under the new covenant of Christ. And just like them, God has given us a task – the great commission to spread the gospel and bring sinners to Jesus. Some gifts are grand and apparent, like musical and artistic abilities. Some are more humble, like a simple testimony and a voice to share it. Search yourself and ask – am I using the things God has given me for their intended purpose, to glorify him?
