They made kings, but not through me.
They set up princes, but I knew it not.
With their silver and gold they made idols

God created humans to worship him; if we aren’t worshipping him, we will be worshipping something else. God knew this was our nature, so the first two commandments were given and placed first. It’s easy to see the old testament examples of carved images and golden calves as antiquated and silly, but money, pleasure, entertainment, and even ourselves can be idols just the same. And what about our political parties? Would you describe any of our leaders at the highest levels as godly people? Do they represent our values as Christians? Have we involved God in setting up our “kings”? Or have we turned our political affiliations into idols as well?
