Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord,
the fruit of the womb a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior
are the children of one’s youth.

In the last few years, I’ve heard many believers say things like, “I don’t know that I would have kids today with the way the world is now.”
This is such a sad, defeatist way of thinking. If the righteous don’t have children, they surrender the earth to the enemy.
We are indeed only pilgrims here, but it is still our duty to spread the love of Christ and bring as many people to him as possible. And there are few greater ways for someone to make a difference in the world than by raising godly children.
As David says in this Psalm, they are like arrows in a warrior’s hand! A warrior uses arrows for both defense and offense. Righteous children will care for their parents as they age, defending them when they’re vulnerable. But also, these children are a great weapon against the enemy; they can grow the kingdom exponentially.
We often grumble about the spreading plague of wickedness, but what better way to combat it than by raising an army of God-fearing children?
