Faith melts promises into arguments, as the soldier doth lead into bullets, and then helps the Christian to send them with a force to heaven in a fervent prayer; whereas a promise in an unbeliever’s mouth is like a shot in a gun’s mouth without any fire to put to it.

Faith helps us to “come boldly unto the throne of grace” (Heb. 4:16 KJV) by taking God’s promises and using them as fuel for our prayers.
For example, if you are struggling with anxiety, here is a promise you could use to propel your prayers up to heaven:
Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. (Matthew 6:31-33)
If you have faith in this promise and pray with “supplication and thanksgiving” (Phi. 4:6), your mind will be at peace, knowing your requests are in line with God’s word and that he is faithful and always keeps his promises.
