For a day in your courts is better
than a thousand elsewhere.
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
than dwell in the tents of wickedness

Psalm 84:10 (ESV)

---

This psalm is about the privilege of worshipping in the house of the Lord. At this time, most people had to make a special pilgrimage to Jerusalem to worship in the temple. They sang that they would rather spend one day there than a thousand elsewhere and that it would be better to be a lowly doorkeeper there than to be among the wicked. Think about how privileged we are in comparison. Not only do we all have a church just a short drive away, but we also have the Holy Spirit dwelling in us. Do we have the same gratitude for our incredible access, not only to the church body but to the Creator himself? Don’t take these privileges for granted.
